FAQ;s

The following are a few of the frequently asked questions about some of our products.

  • What are some hoof problems that may be helped by IH Hoof-N-Sole supplement?

IH Hoof-N-Sole may be used to help prevent or cure such problems as: cracked or dry hoof; soft spongy hoof; injured hoof; soft, weak pads; brittle hoof; diseased hoof and throwing shoes.

  • How soon can I see results?

Results will very but some farriers have seen results in the sole as early as 30-40 days particularly in deficient hooves.   A hoof will grow under normal conditions about ¼ to 3/8 inches per month thus taking six months to a year to completely grow a new hoof.   With H-N-S this time line is greatly accelerated.   Not only will hooves grow faster, the walls will be thicker and stronger.

  • How does d-Biotin help grow hooves?

Biotin is a B-vitamin that has been scientifically shown to help promote, fast strong hoof growth.   Biotin with the aid of other vitamins and minerals helps break down proteins into amino acids (building blocks of protein of which hooves are made).   DL-Methionine increases Biotin effectiveness.

  • Can I over feed Hoof-N-Sole?

Hoof-N-Sole should be fed according to directions for best results, however, over doses in large amounts for a long time should be avoided.   H-N-S is a supplement of nutrients that are found in common horse feeds and are generally safe even if over fed for a time.

  • What are some other things I can do to improve the care of my horses hooves?

Here are some tips that may improve hoof care:   pick out horses feet frequently; observe what is normal; look for signs of problems such as thrush, punctures, cracks or abscesses; schedule regular farrier visits (usually every 6-8 weeks); check shod feet for loose shoes; learn to remove bad shoes properly; help your horse grow best possible hooves with a balanced diet, add Biotin and exercise; avoid constant soaking and drying of hooves; keep out of prolonged mud and protect hooves during hauling.

  • What else can I do to promote good health for my horse and hooves?

We at Iron Horse recommend feeding I H Equine Vitamin-Trace Mineral Conditioner along with IH Hoof-N-Sole. IH Conditioner is loaded with a balance of additional Chelated minerals and essential vitamins to keep your horse in tip top condition.   Mix one jar of H-N-S with one ten pound bucket of IH Conditioner and feed them together as a top dress on your regular feed. For just pennies a day, your horse will receive a broad spectrum of micro nutrients helping to prevent any deficiencies that may occur with poor hay or poor feed.

  • Is I.H. Dewormer safe to use?

I.H. Dewormer is a safe and effective control of internal parasites for pregnant mares, stallions and foals.   It can be used where Panacur is recommended.

  • What parasites are controlled by I.H. Dewormer?

I.H. Dewormer has an anthelmentic spectrum to control large and small strogyles, pinworms, ascarids and arteritis caused by 4 th stage larvae of strongyles vulgaris.

  • Will I.H. Dewormer control tape worms?

Fenbendazole is often the drug of choice.   I.H. Dewormer will control tape worms when the dewormer is given in the proper dose, generally one dose a day for three consecutive days, and then repeated in about thirty days with one dose.   Check with your veterinarian.

  • How often should horses be wormed?

The general recommendation is that most horses should be wormed every eight weeks, year round.   To be sure, have fecal exams by your veterinary consultant periodically. Deworming is the most effective way to break the reproductive and developmental cycle of common internal parasites.

  • What damage can internal parasites do if left unchecked?

All horses have internal parasites, if left unchecked they can rob a horse of nutrients, energy and good health. A horse that is not dewormed effectively on a regular schedule will often have a dull coat, dull attitude, pot belly, carry over winter coat, episodes of colic and frequently “off” in performance. Parasites can take control of the digestive tract and the horse becomes debilitated.

  • How do I know if my horse has internal parasites?

Horses that have dangerous levels of parasites often appear healthy.   Signs of infestation might include;   dull, rough hair coat, lethargy, weight loss, coughing, tail rubbing and hair loss, colic, depression, loss of appetite, unthrifty or loss of condition and diarrhea.

  • Why use I.H. Horse Dewormer 0.5% Crumbles?

I.H. Crumbles are very easy to feed and very few horses refuse to clean up the entire dose during a feeding.   Crumbles prevents waste as you often have with paste.   Fenbendazole is an effective, broad spectrum anthelmentic with a high safety factor for mares, foals and stallions.

Can I use I.H. Dewormer before competition?

The American Horse Show Association includes the benzimidazole family of drugs on their list of masking substances.   I.H. Dewormer is safe when used at least seven days before your show to test clear.   Check your rule book.
